Spring is here and so is the fully staged production of Folklore Urbano's El Barrio Project at the historic theater at Flushing Town Hall---13 musicians, dancers, and a theatrical story about Colombians in Queens---a story of immigrants, of NYC, told through the eyes of artists.
The music and story are hot of the press, the result of an exciting collaboration between a team of creative minds (Pablo Mayor, Ricardo Gautreau, Nick Chavarria, Maria Alejandra Jiménez) and our friends at ArtsLatinoNY dancer/choreographerDaniel Fetecua and theater director Nelson Celis from ID Studio Theater.
Guest artists include Colombian multi-instrumentalist Gregorio Uribe on vocals and acordeón, the lovely Argentinian vocalist Sofía Tosello, Venezuelan Eddie Venegas on vocals, Colombian vocalist Maria Alejandra Jiménez, with Danny Gonzalez on congas, and the all-star Folklore Urbano orchestra line-up of Franco Pinna, drums, Dave Hertzberg, bass, Nestor Gómez, percussion, Rafi Malkiel,euphonium (bombardino), Javi Olivencia, sax, Steven Oquendo, trumpet, Anna Povich de Mayor, flute, and of course, Pablo Mayor on piano. Dancers Brian Rodríguez and Lorena Ayub under the direction of Daniel Fetecua. Actors from ID Studio under the direction of Nelson Celis currently in residence from Bogotá, Colombia at ArtsLatinoNY in the Bronx.
